Forsyth Exterminating began in 1980 as William’s Exterminating, founded by William and Cindy Poss — one of the very first pest control companies in the area, run as a two-person operation from the living room of their two-bedroom home in Cumming, Georgia. William built the company’s first termite rig by hand from a 50-gallon drum and made his first toolbox out of plywood. Cindy ran the business from home while raising two young children — and became one of the first women in the region to perform pest control services in the field.
Renamed Forsyth Exterminating in the early 1990s, the company grew alongside the building boom that transformed Forsyth County, moving from the family basement to its first commercial office on Main Street in downtown Cumming in 2000.
The Poss children grew up in the business. Julie was answering phones and helping customers at age 12, and by 17 was one of the youngest registered pest control technicians in Georgia. Jonathan learned termite treatment and pest management as a teenager and is now the company’s respected technical expert, known for cracking the most complex pest problems. With grandmother Ann Heard’s years in the business and Julie’s own children now growing up around it, four generations have shaped this company.
While earning degrees in International Business and Spanish at the University of Georgia, Julie began managing operations, stepping into the Managing Partner role after graduation and leading the company’s first website and brand refresh in 2003. From 2013 through 2016, Forsyth Exterminating earned a place on UGA’s Bulldog 100 list of fastest-growing companies four consecutive years. Julie has served on the Georgia Pest Control Association’s Public Relations Committee and received National Women in Pest Management honors at the National Pest Management Association’s PestWorld conference. In 2025 she became Chief Executive Officer — and in 2026, the community voted Forsyth Exterminating the Best Pest Control Company in the Best of Forsyth awards.
