Ants — Control & Prevention in Metro Atlanta & North Georgia
Georgia is ant country. Between fire ant mounds in the yard, carpenter ants tunneling into damp wood, and trails of Argentine ants marching across the kitchen counter, ants are the pest problem North Georgia homeowners call us about most. Store-bought sprays kill the ants you see — but the colony, often hundreds of thousands strong, simply reroutes and rebuilds.
Forsyth Exterminating's technicians identify the exact species on your property, locate the nests and trails, and apply targeted treatments that eliminate the colony at its source — including the queen. Because different ants demand different strategies, correct identification is the difference between a fix that lasts a weekend and one that lasts.
Signs You Have an Ant Problem
- Visible trails along baseboards, counters, or driveways
- Fire ant mounds in lawns and landscape beds
- Winged swarmers indoors (often confused with termites)
- Sawdust-like frass near window sills or damp wood (carpenter ants)
- Ants returning days after DIY sprays
How We Solve It
Inspect & identify
We determine the species — carpenter, fire, Argentine, odorous house, pavement, pharaoh, or little black ants — and map nests, trails, and entry points.
Treat the colony
Targeted baits and non-repellent treatments are carried back to the nest, eliminating the colony rather than scattering it.
Seal & prevent
We treat entry points and advise on the moisture and food sources drawing ants inside.
Keep them out
Quarterly protection keeps seasonal re-invasions from getting a foothold — backed by the Forsyth Promise.
Keep Them From Coming Back
- Keep tree limbs and shrubs trimmed back from the house
- Fix leaky faucets and address damp wood promptly
- Store pantry food in sealed containers and wipe up spills
- Seal cracks around doors, windows, and utility lines

Ants FAQs
Why do ants come back after I spray?
Most store-bought sprays are repellents — they kill foragers on contact but split or relocate the colony, a behavior called budding. Professional non-repellent products and baits work slowly enough for workers to share them with the whole colony, including the queen.
Are fire ants dangerous?
Yes. Fire ants sting repeatedly and aggressively, and for sensitive people stings can trigger serious allergic reactions. Mound-by-mound DIY treatment rarely gets the queen; broadcast and mound treatments together provide season-long relief.
