Bats — Control & Prevention in Metro Atlanta & North Georgia
Bats are genuinely valuable neighbors — a single bat eats thousands of mosquitoes and other insects — but a colony roosting in your attic is a serious problem. Guano accumulates quickly, can harbor the fungus that causes histoplasmosis, and bats in living spaces create rabies-exposure concerns that health departments take seriously.
Bats are also protected, which means removal must be done correctly and at the right time of year. Forsyth Exterminating uses safe, non-destructive exclusion: one-way devices let bats exit but not re-enter, the roost is cleaned and disinfected, and every entry point is sealed so the colony can't return.
Signs You Have a Bat Problem
- Bats exiting the roofline or gable vents at dusk
- Guano accumulating on siding, decks, or attic insulation
- Chirping or scratching in walls or the attic at dawn
- Stains around small exterior gaps
How We Solve It
Roost inspection
We locate entry points, estimate colony size, and plan exclusion within legal seasonal windows.
One-way exclusion
Exclusion devices allow bats to leave naturally but block re-entry — no harm to the colony.
Cleanup & disinfection
Guano is removed and the roost area cleaned and disinfected to address histoplasmosis risk.
Seal & protect
All gaps are sealed and vents screened so your attic never hosts a colony again.
Keep Them From Coming Back
- Screen gable and ridge vents
- Seal roofline gaps larger than 3/8 inch
- Check attic annually for droppings or stains
- Consider a bat house to relocate beneficial bats away from the structure

Bats FAQs
Can you just exterminate the bats?
No — and you wouldn't want to. Bats are protected and ecologically important. Legal, humane exclusion removes them permanently without harming them.
When can bat exclusion be done?
Exclusion is timed to avoid maternity season, when flightless pups would be trapped inside. We schedule your exclusion within the appropriate window for Georgia.
Is bat guano really hazardous?
Accumulated guano can host Histoplasma fungus, which becomes airborne when disturbed. That's why cleanup is part of professional bat work, done with proper protective equipment.
Ready to be done with bats?
